The residence

All four are the same residence, which is the point.

There is no better apartment to be upsold and no lesser one handed over at eleven at night. You let yourself in, close your own door, and nobody passes it.

The light

Every ceiling in this building is a light fitting.

The gypsum work is not decoration. It carries recessed channels the length of every room, so the light falls evenly and there is no bare bulb anywhere in the residence.

Mornings

A kitchenette, and a table that seats four.

Coffee before the compound is awake, or breakfast with the people you came with. Everything you need is already in the residence, which is the difference between a room and somewhere to stay.

Every residence has a balcony, and no two look at each other.

They face out over the compound, set apart along the front of the building. Somewhere to take a call at seven in the morning, or sit out once the heat has gone off the day, without meeting anyone on the way.

Plainly

The things people ring ahead to ask about.

Power: Grid, inverter, generator, in that order — and you will not hear the changeover. The air conditioning does not go off at night. It is the first question every guest asks and the easiest one we answer.
Quiet: A residential street, set back from the road, with six residences and nothing else in the building. Evenings here are quiet enough to hear the compound.
Security: The entrance is staffed day and night, the perimeter walled and lit, with cameras on the outside and the entrance. Your own door, your own key, and privacy behind it.
Vehicles: Available at additional cost — airport runs, meetings across the city, Tinapa, or the climb to Obudu. You are quoted before anything is arranged.
Laundry: Same-day laundry and pressing. Leave it before breakfast, back before dinner — which matters more than it sounds when you are here a week with one good suit.
